Iowa State Fairgrounds
by DAVID WILKINSON
It was beautiful night of racing at the historic speedway at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Winners include Craig Jacobs in his IMCA late model, Dave Farren Sr. in IMCA modifieds, Don Killen won in IMCA stock cars, and Tim St. Arnold in his 360 sprint car, Larry Embrey, Rick Gladson, and Gary Stajcar in IMCA Hobby stocks,
Two hobby stock drivers were injured in separate accidents and taken to the hospital. Mary Blackford complained of neck injuries after a wreck during her heat and was taken to Mercy Hospital. Jay Johnson hit the wall coming out of turn two hard and was taken by ambulance for additional care.
In the first IMCA hobby stock feature, Larry Embrey moved quickly from his tenth starting position to capture the lead on lap four of the ten-lap feature. He led the remainder of the race followed by Mike Whitehead, Adam Hagen, and Mathew Williamson. In the second feature, Rick Gladson led the entire race to claim his third straight victory. Finishing behind him were John Watson, Bill Bonnett, and John Gilbert. After the race, Kirk Brown claimed the engine of Watson.
The make-up IMCA hobby stock feature from June 4 was won by Gary Stajcar with Embrey second, Bonnett third, and Curt Reed fourth.
Dave Farren Sr. moved his IMCA modified past Brian George on the second lap and led the rest of the race to claim his second feature win of the year at the fairgrounds. Farren, plagued by equipment problems and bad luck earlier in the season seems to be hitting his stride. In second place was Tim Folkerts, third was Kendall Sather, and George was fourth.
Don Killen led all 12 laps of the IMCA stock car feature and held off the challenge of Mark Elliott and Steve Jackson. Todd Inman was fourth.
Randy Faux led the first 15 laps of the IMCA late model feature, but was unable to reject the challenge of Craig Jacobs. Jacobs won with Faux second, Darrell DeFrance third, and Mike Fitzpatrick fourth.
Tim St. Arnold led all 18 laps of the 360 sprint car feature for his second victory at the fairgrounds this year. Matt Moro chased St. Arnold and featured second. Josh Higday was third and Ed Rotert.
Racing in all classes continues next Friday with hot laps at 6:15 and racing at 7:00 P.M.
