Iowa State Fair Races to Logue, Brown, Embrey & Curtis

Des Moines, Iowa -- The Saturday morning races at the Iowa State Fair saw
victories going to John Logue in his modified and Rick Brown in his stock
car. Hobby stock features went to Larry Embrey and Steve Curtis.
Russ Gladson moved into the lead at the start of the modified main. On a lap
four restart, John Logue moved under Gladson and captured the lead. By lap
ten, George White moved up to second and started to chase Logue, but Logue
held on for the checkered with White second, Rick Gustin third, and Kevin
Brooks was fourth. White, who hails from Ft. Worth Texas, drove the new
modified he just bought from Wayne Larson in Ames.
In the stock car feature, Denny Stoneburner took the early lead, but disaster
struck on lap 13 when his engine erupted in flames. Rick Brown became the
leader and remained there to the checkered flag. Jeff Havlick finished
second with Kevin Pirie third and Don Killen fourth.
In the first hobby stock feature, Larry Embrey passed Rick Gladson on the
second lap and lead the rest of the race. Damon Murty finished second, Bill
Richards third, and Ben Hoesing fourth. In the second hobby stock main,
Bruce Wolfe took the early lead. On lap five, Steve Curtis moved by Wolfe
and won easily. Wolfe finished second, Jim Alexander was third, and John Yaw
Sr. was fourth.
