Friday, May 12, 2000Logue Wins in Mod and Stock Car at Iowa State Fair

Des Moines, Iowa – John Logue won his third modified feature and his first stock car feature of the season on a cold and windy Friday evening at the Iowa State Fair Speedway. In fact Logue won all four races he entered, two heats and two features.
Chris Smyser won the IMCA late model feature and Josh Higday took the 360-sprint car feature. The IMCA hobby stock features were won by Rick Gladson and Steve Curtis while Jeff Johnson took home the DIRT truck victory.
A first lap crash removed several cars from the IMCA modified feature as John Yaw took the early lead. Brian George passed him on the third lap, but John Logue roared through the pack, passed George at the midpoint of the 15-lap race and pulled away for the victory. George finished second with Bill Davis Jr. third and Yaw fourth.
In the IMCA stock car feature, Logue utilized his pole starting position to jump into the lead and the race was on. Passing was challenging on the one groove track and Kent Knopf and Greg Shepherd stayed with Logue, but were unable to pass him. At the checkered, it was Logue, Shepherd, Knopf, and Don Killen. After the race, Danny Hill claimed the engine of Knopf.
Twenty IMCA late models started the feature with Ronnie Binnigy taking the lead. Working his way through the field, Chris Smyser passed Binnigy on lap 12 of the 18-lap feature. Smyser held on for the victory. Todd Cooney, using a borrowed car after an accident in his heat, finished second. Darrell DeFrance was third and Chris Spicker was fourth.
Josh Higday led all 18 laps of the 360-sprint car feature finishing ahead of Tim St. Arnold, Don Droud, Jr., and Larry Pinegar.
Jeff Johnson won the DIRT Truck feature finishing ahead of Sean Allen, Mark Fee, and Steve Philipsen.
Rick Gladson won the first IMCA hobby stock feature followed by John Davis, Jim Alexander, and Jeff Featherstone. In the second feature, it was Steve Curtis trailed by Danny Gathercole, Keith Williamson, and Bruce Wolfe. After the race, Matt Sheets claimed the engine of Curtis.
Racing in all classes continues next Friday with hot laps at 6:15 followed by racing.
