Welcome to Ira, Iowa

Ira is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Des Moines and approximately 13 miles northwest of Newton.   Ira is located in the Colfax-Mingo School District but many of the children attend Baxter Community School.  Ira is an unincorporated town with a little less than 100 people.

Ira is located along the Chichaqua Valley Trail.  This is a 24 mile paved trail that goes from Bondurant to Baxter.  The trail is very scenic and makes great walking or biking.

Located next to the trail is the Ira Park.  Currently we have a shelter house, swing set, sandbox, Little Tykes activity set, monkey bars, and an activity set with slide.  We have added another swing set with a porch swing and a toddler swing and wooden fort with a slide, cargo net, and fireman's pole.  Also located in the park is a basketball court.  The Ira Community Center is a very nice building used for storing the town's fire truck, town meetings and other town activities but may also be rented out for a $20 fee for anyone with Ira ties.  The Center has electricity, running water, and a new furnace.

Ira is home to a post office, Ira United Church, and Bucklin's Auto.

Please join us for a Bake Sale on Saturday, December 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Community Center.  We are looking for people who would like to donate baked goods, candies, etc.  The fundraiser is sponsored by Friends of the Ira STAR!  We look forward to seeing you there.  If you have questions or would like to donate goods please contact Jayme Ewing at jewing@pcpartner.net.

We would like to thank everyone who made the Soup Supper and Auction a big success!
