What's WHAT?

Miscellaneous & Technical Terms
E.V.P.:
E.V.P. stands for
Electronic Voice Phenomena. This is a recorded sound or voice that
has no known source, & usually, but not always, can only be heard on the recording.
These are sometimes picked up on video tapes, answering machines, & tape
recorders. Investigators use digital recorders to obtain E.V.P.s so as not
to get machine noise creating "false readings".
DOWSING:
This is an age old
technique often used in the past to locate water sources for wells.
The dowser uses 1 or 2 'L-shaped' metal rods to locate areas of paranormal
activity. The rods can be used to either 'point the way' or to cross
at areas of high activity. We have successfully used this method in
investigations. It has even been helpful in locating hidden graves.
EMF
detectors:
Electro Magnetic Field
detectors are used to measure fluctuations in the normal magnetic field
range. These can be caused by electric appliances, but spirit
activity registers on a lower range than this. All normal
causes for interference must be located & ruled out to make sure readings are
accurate. A common dial compass can also be used to determine areas
of disturbed magnetic fields. The needle will move sharply off of
North when in an active area.
Thermal
Scanners:
These are used to measure
any unusual fluctuations in room temperature, & can be used to pinpoint & record
specific areas of change. Isolated, intense, temporary changes in
temperature can signify paranormal activity. It is thought that this
is caused by the spirit drawing on surrounding energy to manifest in some way.
Motion
Detectors:
These detectors use an
infrared beam to sense movement. Anything that disrupts the beam-
seen or unseen- will trigger an alarm. Some detectors also sense
changes in light. We set these up in rooms that will be closed off
while we investigate else where. The alarm will alert us to possible
paranormal activity in that area.
